Make It Fun

Have them spend half an hour going through their closets or their toy boxes, and pull out things they no longer wear or play with that you can store or donate. Set up a reward system so that when the half an hour is up, they get a treat or can spend the next hour doing whatever it is they want to do. You may find that they’re so involved in sorting and organizing, that they don’t want to stop!

Deciding What to Keep

A snow day can be a great time to assess what’s in your house and how you use and interact with it. If you find something buried deep in the closet that you’d forgotten you had, it’s usually best to get rid of it rather than keep it. If you have items that you want to keep, but that you don’t necessarily want to store in the house, putting them in self-storage can be a great alternative. You’ll be able to hold onto things until you pass them on to your kids, or until you decide to sell them or find another use for them.
