Cleaning and Storing Your Winter Sports Gear
The New Year is now well underway, and you may be planning to take that family skiing and snowboarding trip this month. At EZ Storage® in St. Louis, we’ve helped many people find a self-storage unit for their winter sports gear when they weren’t using it, but with the fresh powder on the mountains, you might be ready to head west. Whether you’re going to Colorado or somewhere else with similar ski slopes, then it’s important to make sure your gear is clean and ready to go. Once you get back, you can put your skis, snowboards, goggles, and more back into storage!
Prepping Your Gear
Before you pack up the car and head out, it’s important to make sure your gear is in good shape. Check your skis and snowboards for any cracks or loose fittings, and if you can, take everything to a local sporting goods store for repairs. If your boards and skis have been in storage all year, then the bases are likely going to be dry. You’ll want to apply a new coat of wax, or have a professional do it at a local store. Make sure you check the bindings and buckles as well for any loose (or lost) screws. The last thing you want is to get on the slopes and have your ski or board come off your foot!
Make Sure Everything Fits
You may have splurged on a new pair of ski boots for the kids last year, and while they got plenty of use out of them, it’s important to make sure they still fit this year. Boots that are too tight can quickly dampen the spirits on a ski trip, and you don’t want to spend the money on a lift ticket when your child can’t use it. Trying everything on, including boots, coats, and goggles, before you go can make the trip much more successful.
Put Things Through the Wash
Your ski jacket may have been hanging in the closet since last January, and you may have stuck it in there once you got back from your previous trip. Some winter outerwear can be washed in the washing machine, but it’s always a good idea to check the care instructions before you throw everything in the machine and turn on the hot water. Once you’ve found how to clean everything properly, and it’s ready to go, you can look forward to wearing it during another trip to the mountains.
Storing Your Gear
Once you return from your trip, you might be tempted to pile everything in the garage and leave it until later. Instead of doing that, come to one of our St. Louis self-storage centers and let us help you find a suitable storage unit. You can stop by on your way home from your trip and deposit everything, or you can take things home, organize them, and then drop them off. We offer convenient access hours, so even if you come back at 8:00 p.m. on a Sunday, you’ll be able to get to your unit.
At EZ Storage®, we can keep your winter sports gear safe for as long as you need. We offer month-to-month leasing on all of our units, so if you only need storage from February to November, then that’s all you have to pay for. We can help you find the right size of space, and should you ever want to upgrade or downgrade, we’ll help you find a new space.
We hope that this post has helped you get ready for your upcoming ski trip. If you need storage when you get back, then please visit us right away.
We look forward to meeting you!
