What’s in Your Closets That You Could Donate?

At EZ Storage® in St. Louis, we know that your closets can become a depot for pretty much everything. In your bedroom closet, you have clothes on hangers, shoes on the floor, and personal mementos that are stashed in boxes on the upper shelves. Your hallway closet might be stuffed with sheets, blankets, and towels, and your kitchen cupboards might be filled with small appliances such as toasters and mixers.
If and when you go through these closets and cupboards each year, it can be good to pull things out that you can donate. There are likely clothes you no longer wear, shoes that no longer fit, and sheets and blankets that are no longer in the greatest condition. If you have items that you want to keep, but need to store elsewhere, then a self-storage unit can be a great choice. Visit one of our locations today to get started!
Clothes and Shoes
We all own clothes and shoes, and there are things that we wear more often than others. You might have a few favorite T-shirts or a pair of pants that you love wearing whenever you can. As for formal wear, you might have some button-down shirts or dresses that you never plan on getting rid of, but what about the other things hanging in the closet? There are countless charities that accept used and gently worn clothing, and you can feel good knowing that someone else is getting some use out of those shirts or pants you rarely ever wore.
As for shoes, you may feel that you own too many pairs, but instead of donating them, you leave the unworn ones sitting in the back of the closet. If you have running shoes, dress shoes, or any other footwear that you haven’t worn in six months, then why not donate them? There are people who would love to have a pair of “new” shoes, no matter where they came from.
Sheets and Blankets
Sheets and blankets seem to be things that we all have a lot of in our home. With multiple bedrooms, you need the right sets of sheets for every bed, and you need several sets so that you can change the sheets every few weeks (or more often). You have twin sheets, full sheets, and more, and you may have light and heavy sets for every season of the year. However, once those sheets and blankets get a bit worn, what do you do with them?
Obviously, sheets with holes in them are going to be tough to donate to a shelter or anywhere people will use them. Gently used blankets are often acceptable donations, but if you’re looking for somewhere that will take anything you have to donate, then look at animal rescues and shelters. These organizations are often looking for blankets and sheets that they can wash and then use in their buildings. The dogs, cats, and other animals can then have soft beds, which can help make their stay in the shelter more comfortable.
Small Appliances
You love using your kitchen to cook delicious meals, and you may have lots of small appliances and gadgets that help you create amazing dishes. However, what do you do when your cupboards are getting a bit too crowded? If you still have that toaster that you got as a wedding present, or there’s a perfectly good mixer that’s been replaced by a newer model, then why not clean things out and donate some items?
Charities and shelters that have kitchens would likely love to have used appliances that still work. These organizations are often on a limited budget with what they can buy for the kitchen, and they rely on donations to keep things running smoothly. If you have appliances and other kitchen items that are simply taking up space, then consider donating some things to a local organization.
