Summer Cleaning Checklist

At EZ Storage® in St. Louis, we know that you may have just gotten done with your spring cleaning in May, and perhaps you’ve cleared out lots of clutter that was taking up valuable space in your home. However, we all know that a clean house doesn’t stay clean forever, and that it takes constant upkeep to maintain a neat and orderly home. In this post, we’ll look at some summer cleaning ideas that you can add to your checklist for the season.
If you’re looking for a self-storage unit this summer, we can help you find the ideal space. We have a variety of units available, and you can rent one for as long as you need. Call or visit one of our metro-area locations today to get started!
1. Cleaning the Floors
With the family spending more time at home during the summer, this means more foot traffic for your floors. You may also be spending more time outside, playing games and doing yard work, which increases the chance of dirt and mud being tracked inside the house. Cleaning your floors on a regular basis can keep them looking good, whether that means vacuuming the carpet in the living room or sweeping and mopping the hardwood floors.
You can always spot clean your floors when something is spilled on them or tracked inside from the yard, but it can be beneficial to do a thorough cleaning at least once a month during the summer. You might need to move furniture and other objects out of the way to get all the dust and dirt, but your home will feel much better once the floors are clean. You may even decide to rearrange your furniture for better traffic flow, and if you need to store any couches or chairs, we can help you find a secure spot for them.
2. Maintaining the Laundry Room
It goes without saying that the laundry room gets used a lot more during the summer. Even this summer, when things might not be as they normally are, you may find yourself doing several loads of laundry per week, as you and the family go through multiple outfits each day. You have pajamas, work attire, exercise apparel, and other clothing that gets worn on a weekly basis, and it’s important to have clean options throughout the week. If you have access to a local pool, you’ll also need clean swimsuits and towels.
Laundry can seem like quite a chore, but by having the entire family help keep the laundry room neat and tidy, you can get more loads done in less time. Create a schedule for when certain clothes will be washed, such as outdoor clothes on Wednesday, and swimsuits and towels on Friday. If your washer and dryer don’t work as well as they used to, you can replace them with new models and store your old appliances until you decide to sell or donate them.
3. Bathroom Upkeep
No one enjoys cleaning the bathroom, but it’s one of those tasks that needs to be done on a regular basis. During the summer, with everyone home most of the time, your toilets, sinks, tubs, and showers are going to be used a lot more, meaning they need to be cleaned a lot more. Depending on how many bathrooms are in your home, cleaning each one every week can feel like a lot.
Start by dividing the bathroom cleaning by person. If your teenage daughter has her own bathroom, then have her take charge of cleaning it at least once a week. For bathrooms that are used by more than one person in the house, set up a rotating cleaning schedule where one person cleans one week, and another person cleans the next week. Sinks and toilets should be given extra attention, and it can be good to clean them twice a week during the summer.
4. Rely on Self-Storage
As you’re cleaning the floors, doing the laundry, or scrubbing the bathroom, it’s important to remember that you’re doing these things not only to keep your family happy and healthy, but also so that you can enjoy your home to its fullest. At EZ Storage®, we’re here to help you find a self-storage unit where you can keep things that you want to protect, but that are perhaps taking up valuable space in your living room, laundry room, or bathroom.
From furniture to clothing, you have items you want to keep that you may not need during the summer. By renting a local storage space, you can protect your belongings and create more room in your home. Cleaning can become much easier as well, when you don’t have things in the way that you have to move every single time.
