Coins and Stamps

You may have started collecting coins or stamps because of a family member who had a collection that was passed on to you. Perhaps your parent or grandparent had a substantial collection of coins or stamps, and you remember them showing you their new additions as they added them to a book or a box.

Now that you have your own collection, it’s best to ensure that it’s protected from theft and damage. Putting your coins or stamps in a home safe can be a great option, but if you want to store your collection outside of the house, a secure storage unit can be the next best thing.

Artwork

If you collect artwork, either by period, by artist, or by whatever catches your eye, then it’s important to have somewhere to store the pieces that aren’t currently on display in your home, business, or elsewhere. You likely paid top dollar for much of your collection, and the last thing you want is for something to happen to a painting, a sculpture, or a photograph.

Storing artwork can be challenging, as you need to make sure everything is protected and archived in the proper way. From the packaging and paper you use to how it’s transported all play a part in storing your artwork for any period of time. As for the storage unit you choose, it’s best to go with a climate-controlled space, where you can protect the art from heat, cold, and humidity — all of which can be extremely detrimental to your collection.

Cards and Comics

Baseball cards and comic books have long been favorites of collectors around the world. There’s no bigger thrill than getting your hands on that one vintage baseball card or that rare comic book. If you collect either or both of these things, then you likely started at a young age and have continued collecting well into adulthood. You have boxes and binders that are full of collectibles, but those boxes and binders can quickly take up space in your house.

No matter where you’re storing your cards and comics, it’s important that they’re protected. For baseball cards, plastic sleeves inside a three-ring binder can be a great choice, just as long as there’s no risk of cards getting bent or damaged. For comic books, the proper size plastic bags and backer boards are the best way to go. Remember, modern and vintage comic books are different sizes, so you’ll need to be sure you have the right combination of bags and boards for your collection. From there, you can store your comics in a short box or long box, which you should be able to find at your local comic book or gaming store.
