Storing Things in the Garage This Fall

In our last post, we talked about planning for fall storage and how you can prepare to move outdoor gear, patio furniture, and other seasonal items into self-storage at the end of the summer. At EZ Storage® in Philadelphia, we’re always here to help you find the right storage unit, and we can answer any questions you have about rent, accessibility, and more. We also know that there are some items you’d rather keep in the garage this fall, and in this post, we’ll look at how you can best store those things until you need them again in the spring.
Bikes and Scooters
The kids have had a blast this summer, zooming around the neighborhood on a new bike or scooter. During the summer, they may have parked the bike in the garage, leaning it against the wall or using the kickstand to keep it upright until they were ready to ride again. As the weather begins to cool in September and the days get shorter, there will be fewer opportunities for bike and scooter riding. When that happens, it’s good to have a storage solution for these two-wheeled toys.
Wall and ceiling hooks are a viable option for bike and scooter storage during the fall and winter months. These hooks get the bikes off of the garage floor and out of the way, giving you more space to park your vehicles. Having the bikes and scooters on the wall or ceiling also protects them from damage, and you can add smaller hooks for helmets, pads, and more.
Ladders and Hoses
If you’ve been tending to the yard or garden all summer long, then you likely have tools and supplies that need to be put away at the end of the season. While you may put some things into self-storage, there are a few items that you want to keep in the garage. For example, if you have an outdoor step ladder or extension ladder that you used for trimming branches this summer, it can take up quite a bit of space in the garage. You want to have the ladder nearby in case you need it during the fall, so why not store it on wall hooks next to the bikes and scooters. Storing the ladder on hooks instead of leaning it against the wall can make your garage safer, since there’s less of a chance the ladder will fall over and damage something if bumped.
As for your garden hoses, it might be tempting to coil them up and store them in a cabinet for the fall and winter. While this can be acceptable, it’s often better to store them on a wall rack or portable cart so that they retain their shape and remain untangled. You definitely don’t want to keep your hoses outside during the fall and winter, where sun exposure and freezing temperatures can damage them beyond repair.
