Storing Items After Labor Day

Happy Labor Day image

Today is Labor Day, and for people around the country, it means a day off from work to enjoy time together as summer “officially” comes to an end. At EZ Storage® in St. Louis, we hope that you’re having a great time no matter what you’re doing, whether that’s grilling in the backyard or enjoying one more relaxing day on the lake.

When it comes to post-Labor Day plans, you may have a lot you want to get accomplished after the long weekend. You might have house projects for the fall, or you may want to get things organized in each room so that you don’t have to live with as much clutter. If you need a self-storage unit for certain items, then visit one of our metro-area locations today!

Putting Away Summer Clothes

You’ve likely heard the old adage, “you can’t wear white after Labor Day,” and while you may not adhere to this rule, you still likely have some summer clothes that need to be put away for the season. Shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, and everything else that you won’t wear again until next year can be stored in plastic tubs in your storage unit, and you won’t have to worry about summer clothes taking up valuable space in your closets or drawers.

When packing your clothes for storage, it’s okay to leave a few warm-weather items out. There will likely be a few warm days during September and October, and you may want a pair of shorts to wear when you’re working outside, bringing in the last of the garden produce.

Putting Away Bikes and Outdoor Gear

Summer is often filled with outdoor adventures, and Labor Day weekend can be a great time to ride that new bike path in town or take the canoe to your favorite lake. Now that the season is coming to an end, it’s time to think about putting away those bikes and your outdoor gear. The kids may be able to ride their bikes to school for the next few weeks, but as the weather changes and the days get shorter, it’s going to be more bus and car rides on school days. As for your canoes, kayaks, and other watercraft, the garage is always an option, unless you’re limited on space.

With one of our storage units, you can keep bikes, kayaks, and anything else inside for the fall and winter, and you won’t have to give up space at home to do so. We offer spaces on a month-to-month basis, so you can rent for the time you need and then take everything home in the spring!

Putting Away Patio Furniture

Your patio furniture saw a lot of use during the summer, and you may have used it one last time during a big Labor Day bash in your backyard. There will be a few more days over the next two months where you can sit outside in the evening, but before you know it, you’ll be spending more time in front of the fireplace than on the back deck or patio.

Putting away patio furniture can seem like a hassle, especially if you have a large outdoor table and several chairs, along with the cushions for those chairs and an umbrella for the table. While you can perhaps cover the table and fold up the umbrella, the chairs should probably be kept inside for the next few months. Your storage space can be the perfect solution, and you won’t have to worry about anything getting bent or broken during a particularly cold or snowy day.
