Selling Your Home This Summer
Summer is often the most popular time for people to move, and if that’s your plan this summer, then you’ve likely already started getting the house ready to put on the market. At EZ Storage® in Detroit, we know how stressful selling your home can be, and if you need a self-storage unit while you renovate certain rooms or get ready to move to another place, then we’re here to help. With multiple locations across the metro area, we can provide you with a space that’s close to home — old or new!
Clearing Out Rooms
Before putting your house on the market, it’s good to go through each room and clear out those items that don’t need to be there. Extra furniture, boxes, and other items that are taking up space should be moved out so that potential buyers can see each room as it was meant to be seen. You don’t want the house to appear cluttered and unkempt, as that can make someone think you haven’t taken great care of the house.
You’ll also want to “depersonalize” rooms so that those who are interested in your house can see themselves living there. Things like personal mementos or family photos should be taken off the walls and packed away. This not only depersonalizes the house, it also gives you a head start on packing for your move!
Making Minor Upgrades
If you’re getting ready to sell your home this summer, then there are some minor upgrades that you can make before putting it on the market. You don’t necessarily want to take on major renovations such as gutting the bathroom or the kitchen, but minor changes such as painting the living room or the master bedroom can make the house more appealing. You’ll want to go with a neutral paint color that anyone would like. A bold color that only you like might be great if you were planning to stay in the house, but since you’re moving, you’ll want to pick a different hue.
You can also make upgrades to the faucets and light fixtures in your house. If the kitchen faucet has leaked or dripped for several years, then take an hour on a Saturday and replace it with a new one. If the light above the basement stairs has been broken for some time, then hire an electrician to swap it out for a new one. You’ll also want to make sure that all the light bulbs in the house are working, since potential buyers will want to try every switch when they take a tour of your home.
Find Storage Today
As you’re packing for your move and getting your house ready to sell, you might have boxes and other items that need to be kept out of the way. The garage and the basement aren’t viable options, since you need to keep those clear of clutter. Renting a self-storage unit might be the best choice, and with our monthly leases, you can keep your things safe for as long you need without worrying about a long-term contract.
