Organizing Your Home Workspace

You may have been working from home for the past few weeks, as stay-at-home orders and business closures continue. At EZ Storage® in Detroit, we know how challenging things have been for many people as they adapt to having kids home from school, trying to work during the day, and keeping everything organized. We’re here to help however we can, offering affordable self-storage options for anyone who needs them. All of our offices are writing new storage leases, and normal gate hours remain in effect for all facility locations. If you have any questions, please contact the storage center nearest you right away.

As you’ve been working from home, you may have noticed that your workspace isn’t as organized as it could be. Perhaps you’ve been working from the kitchen or dining room table, or you’ve set up a makeshift office in the guest bedroom. Whatever the case may be, organizing your work area can help you be more productive as you attempt to keep up with things during these unprecedented times.

Create a Dedicated Space

One of the best things you can do while working from home is to create a dedicated workspace. Even if you’ve set up in the guest bedroom, make that room your work area and nothing else. You may need to move some things around, such as move the bed against another wall or move some furniture, such as the dresser, out of the way. If you don’t have a place to store some items that need to be moved, we can help you find a unit that will protect everything until you’re ready to take it back home.

Once you have your dedicated space, use it only for work. After you’re done for the day, close the laptop or shut off the computer and leave the room, at least for a little while. If you have other things you need to do on the computer, such as pay bills or order food online, take the laptop to another room, or wait a few hours before sitting back down at your desk. It can make a big difference to create a divide between work time and personal time.

Go Through Paperwork

Perhaps you already have a home office that’s dedicated strictly to work. You’ve been working from home off and on for a long time, and you have a space and a routine that works for you. If so, this transition to working from home full-time may not have been too challenging. What has been challenging, however, is the realization that there is a stack of paperwork a mile high in your home office. If you run your own business, you might have years’ worth of invoices, receipts, and tax paperwork that’s starting to overrun your office.

Going through those boxes and files of papers can help you clear out the clutter in your office, as well as come up with a better organizational system for your business paperwork. If you have boxes of important documents that you need to store elsewhere, a secure self-storage unit can be the perfect choice.

Find Storage Today

As we stated above, all of our EZ Storage® are renting new units to customers. Some offices aren’t allowing public access to the office, but we can work with you over the phone or via email. Once you’ve rented a self-storage space, you can access it on any day of the year. We just ask that you respect others who are also putting things into storage, and take extra precautions to keep yourself and others safe and healthy.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to helping you!
