Making Your Local Move Easier
When you think about moving, you might think about relocating to another city or state. Long-distance moves are common, but local moves are just as prevalent, and if you’re moving from one side of town to the other, or you’ve found another place in the same apartment complex, there are some steps you can take to make moving day easier on yourself and your family. At EZ Storage® in St. Louis, we can make your life easier by providing you with a self-storage space for those items that don’t fit into your new house or apartment, or that you want to keep safe until you can decide what to do with them!
1. Pack Before Moving Day
This first step may seem obvious, but there are still those people who don’t pack those last few things until 10 minutes before the moving truck arrives. If you’re handling the move yourself, you don’t want to be scrambling around on moving day, trying to get everything organized when you should be on your way to your new place. By packing before moving day, you can set aside those boxes and crates that you want to put into storage, which will help you know exactly what you’ll need to move to your new house or apartment.
2. Make a Few Trips
If you’re just moving down the street, then you won’t have to try to get everything to your new place in one trip. If you’re able to get the keys to your new place before you have to be out of your old one, you can make a few trips over the course of a few days, which will make the actual moving day much easier. By taking a few carloads ahead of time, you may be able to rent a smaller moving truck and make the big day much shorter and less stressful. Plus, by packing your car with things that go into storage, you can swing by your rented unit and deposit items, putting them out of sight and out of mind until you’re ready to sort through them. Fragile items like mirrors and fine china can also be much safer in your car than in a moving truck.
3. “Hire” Help
While you may be fine with hiring a professional moving company, it may not be in the budget. Asking a few friends or family members to help can be a great way to get your things down the stairs and into the truck. You can offer to pay them something, or reward them by taking them out for a meal once everything has been moved. Just keep in mind that if they help you move, you may have to return the favor someday!
4. Label Everything
Even if the boxes are only going to be in your car or the moving truck for half an hour, be sure that you label everything. This will also help if you put things into storage, as you don’t want to have to open a box to find out what’s inside. By labeling your boxes and tubs, you can put them in the correct room in your new house, which will make unpacking and organizing much easier.
If you’re moving to a new place across town, or you’re just moving to another floor in your building, let EZ Storage® help you find the perfect space for those extra belongings.
