Giving People a New Start

At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we’re always dedicated to providing the very best self-storage solutions for those who need them. We’re also dedicated to finding ways in which we can give back to the community, and one of those ways is through the New Start ministry at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glenshaw. Through this ministry, the church accepts donations of furniture and household items so that they can give them those in need. By working with several local outreach organizations, the church is able to identify those people and families who could use the items, thereby giving them a new start!

Our Involvement

In 2012, the leaders of the New Start ministry, Barb and Larry Nugent, had run out of room in their home to store the donated items. The church didn’t have the space for everything, so they came to our storage facility in Ross Township. Through a special grant, we were able to help them find a suitable storage solution, which enabled them to take in more donations and distribute more items to more families. They were able to store furniture, appliances, and other large items in a secure place, and not have to worry about running out of room. Since then, they’ve actually expanded into a larger storage unit, which means even more room for more donations!

Through the use of our moving truck, New Start is able to make multiple deliveries in one day, which cuts down on the number of trips they have to make in a week’s time. Instead of borrowing a pickup or trying to find a suitable van, they can load all of the furniture and appliances into the truck and deliver them to a family. One story that Barb and Larry share about when the truck was helpful was when it was pouring rain and they had a house’s worth of furniture to deliver to a family with six children. Instead of having to worrying about everything getting wet, they were able to load it into the truck, drive it to the house, and unload it quickly!

Volunteer Efforts

New Start completely relies on volunteer efforts to pick up the donated items and distribute them to families in need. This is all done free of charge, and EZ Storage® is proud to be part of the process.
