Buying New Outdoor Furniture for the Summer

At EZ Storage® in Philadelphia, we love the summertime, with its barbecues, pool parties, and other outdoor fun. We know that you likely have some great summer plans in the works, and if you need self-storage at all during the season, then we’d love to help you find the perfect unit. Whether you’re traveling or staying at home, you can keep your belongings safe and sound for as long as you need.

One thing you might be considering this summer is buying new outdoor furniture for your deck or pool area. Your old pieces have been falling apart for several years, and you’re ready to throw them away and get something new. You can always store your old furniture until you sell it or donate it, or if it’s beyond hope, take it to the local landfill. When choosing your new outdoor furniture, there are some things to keep in mind!

Wood, Wicker, Metal, or Plastic?

You may have a preference when it comes to what your outdoor furniture is made of. You might like wood for its sturdiness and support, or perhaps you prefer wicker or plastic because it’s lightweight and easy to move. If you’d rather have metal because of how it looks, then you can find a number of different styles at your local home goods store.

No matter which option you choose — wood, wicker, metal, or plastic — it’s important to keep in mind that this furniture is going to be exposed to the elements during the summer. This means wind, sun, and rain, and you want the pieces to last for many years. They will require cleaning and upkeep such as wiping off dirt and cobwebs, and even hosing down the furniture from time to time.

How Big of a Set Do You Need?

Once you’ve decided what furniture material you want, you’ll have to pick out the set you want. If you have a small family, then a table and four chairs should suffice. If you’re the house that hosts all of the family and neighborhood barbecues during the summer, then you might need a bigger outdoor set. You can find tables with six, eight, or ten chairs, and you can usually buy individual chairs to complement the table you’ve already purchased. Some metal and plastic outdoor chairs are stackable, so you can set them aside or store them in the garage when you don’t need them.

You’ll also need to take into consideration how much space your deck or pool area has. Can it accommodate a table and eight chairs? Is there room for a large umbrella? You don’t want your backyard space to feel too crowded, as that can impact the comfort and appeal of your property.

Where Will You Store Everything Once Fall Arrives?

Your plan is to enjoy your new outdoor furniture all summer long, but what will you do with it once fall arrives? As colder weather sets in come October, you may cover your table and chairs or move them into the shed or the garage. While these are great solutions in most cases, not everyone has the space to store a large patio set or wants to keep everything outside for fall and winter, even if it’s covered.

Self-storage can provide the perfect solution when it comes to protecting your outdoor furniture. You can rent a unit from us for the fall and winter months, and once spring rolls around again, you can take everything out and set it up on your deck or patio once again. The wood, wicker, metal, or plastic won’t be affected by rain, snow, and colder temperatures, and each piece should remain fairly clean while in storage. You’ll still want to cover everything, but having a secure roof over your table and chairs will keep them safe and sound.
