Are Your Entryways Ready for Fall?

With fall just around the corner, you’re probably thinking about how ready you are for the change of season. You’ve packed away your summer clothes and gotten out your fall and winter attire, but what about getting the house ready? At EZ Storage® in Philadelphia, we can help you find the ideal self-storage unit for anything you need to store this fall, from clothes to outdoor gear.

One thing to consider this fall regarding your home is how organized are your entryways? You, the kids, and guests will be coming and going through the front door, back door, and garage, and the last thing you want is for one of your access points to be cluttered and chaotic.

The Front Entry

The front entry is the one that’s used the most often on a daily basis. It’s where you hang your coats and keep your keys, and it’s where the kids kick off their shoes when they get home from school, extracurricular activities, and sports practice. Without some planning, this area can quickly become disorganized, making it difficult to find the coat you need, put on your shoes quickly, or locate your keys when you’re already running late.

Consider adding some more hooks for coats and keys to the front entryway, along with shoe racks or bins for boots, sneakers, and sports shoes. You can also pack up the summer jackets and shoes and put them into storage, creating more room for the things you need during the fall.

The Back Entry

The back entry connects to the rear of your property, and during the fall, you might use it when you have company over to sit around the fire pit or after you spend an hour or two raking leaves. On warmer autumn days when the kids are playing in the backyard, they’ll use the back door when they come in to grab a snack or go to the bathroom.

If the back door leads directly into the kitchen or another room of the house, make sure there’s a suitable floor mat for catching dirt and water as people enter. If the back entry leads to the hallway or an alcove, you can set up a similar organization system as the front door area, adding hooks and bins for organization.

The Garage and Mudroom

You’re going to be driving a lot more during the fall, since it’s often a bit too chilly to walk or bike to your destination. This means you’ll be entering the house through the garage and into the mudroom or laundry room, and as the days get colder, you’ll be leaving that way as well. It’s nice to be able to go from a warm house to a warm car, but the last thing you want is to have clutter in your way.

Make sure the access door in your garage is clear of any random boxes or tubs by moving them to another part of the garage or by putting them into storage. As for your laundry room or mudroom, create a clear path by marking out areas on the floor with tape. You can designate areas for shoes and boots, keeping them out of the walking area and preventing any tripping hazards. Each member of the family can have their own space, and you can keep things neat and tidy all season long.
