Are You A Snowbird?

The term “snowbird” may not be familiar to you, but for those who venture south during the cold winter months, it may be a term they’ve come across before now. The term comes from the practice of people heading for warmer climates during the winter (much like many species of birds). It’s often used to refer to retired persons who live in the northern states during the summer, but then live somewhere southern during the winter. They may want to be close to children and grandchildren during most of the year, but they don’t want to deal with the winter weather once November arrives.

Packing up the car and heading to Florida can sound very nice, especially when you know the temps in Philadelphia will be dipping into the single digits and snow is on its way. At EZ Storage®, we’ve helped many a snowbird find the self-storage they need for the months they will be gone.

Deciding What to Store

dtime29640021You may have a second home in Florida, Arizona, or another warm-weather state, and you have everything you need in terms of furniture, clothing, and other necessities in the house. However, you may have things in your house in Philadelphia that you wish to store while you’re gone. If your house will be sitting unoccupied, you may want to move valuables or some furniture into storage, and if you’re flying to your destination, you may have a vehicle that you need to store. Some people prefer to drive south so that they can see the country along the way, but if you’re someone who would rather just get there and enjoy your time, we can supply the ideal solution for your car, truck, or motorcycle.

Seasonal Storage

dreamstime_xxl_388750One of the benefits of renting from EZ Storage® is that we offer seasonal options. If you’re only going to be gone from October to March, you only need to pay for the months you use your storage unit. You can move things in in October and then pick them up when you return. You won’t have to worry about being locked into a year-long contract, and you can pay your bill from anywhere in the United States or across the globe! If you have a friend or family member who will be in Philly during the winter, he or she can act as your account manager and you can grant them access to your storage unit, should you want or need them to pick something up or drop something off while you’re away.

If you’re a snowbird, or you’re thinking about becoming one for the first time this fall or winter, visit one of our metro locations today. It may only be halfway through August, but now is the time to begin thinking about what you want to store and how long you’ll need to store it. We have a number of affordable units in various sizes, and our staff will gladly show you both standard and climate-controlled options.

We look forward to meeting you!
