Are You a Collector?

People collect all sorts of things, and some are more avid about it than others. There are those who collect baseball cards and memorabilia, while others focus on finding every copy of a magazine that’s been out of print. People even collect unique things such as antique radios! No matter what type of collection you have, you want to be sure that it’s protected from damage. Depending on how long you’ve been gathering items, you may have outgrown the space that was originally intended for your compilation. When that happens, it’s time to begin thinking about other storage options. At EZ Storage® in Detroit, we can help you find the ideal space for your valuable collection.
Taking Inventory
As a dedicated collector, you’ve most likely kept track of everything you’ve brought in over the years. If not, now is the perfect time to go through and catalog each item in your collection. It will also give you a chance to check on the condition of each piece, no matter if it’s a comic book or a vinyl record. Writing down the name, condition, and year (if applicable) of each item can help you get a better sense of the breadth of your collection, and you can organize everything based on certain parameters. This is especially beneficial with things such as baseball cards, where multiple cards make up a series that was released in a certain year. You may find that you’re missing a few cards, and this will give you the info on what items you need to search for at the next flea market or garage sale you go to.
Storing Your Collection
Some collections are easier to store than others, and there are special sleeves and boxes for things like cards and comics. However, if you have a stockpile of antique handheld radios, you’re going to have to be creative when it comes time to store them. You don’t want anything to get damaged, and you can’t simply fit everything neatly into a cardboard box. You may need to find some foam that you can cut to fit each radio, and wrap each one in bubble wrap. Antique electronics can be susceptible to temperature fluctuations, so it may be best to pick a climate-controlled storage unit. If you have questions about how best to store your collection, our staff will be more than happy to help.
If you’re an avid collector and you’ve run out of space at home to store your collection safely, come to EZ Storage® today.
