Storage with Heart

Every summer for nearly 30 years, children from across the country who have congenital and acquired heart conditions have attended Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s (CHP) Heart Camp. There, along with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other CHP staff, the kids are able to form lifelong friendships with those who are experiencing the same obstacles that they are, as well as those who understand what they’re going through. The camp provides the opportunity for the kids to play games, make crafts, and live life with others without fear of being judged.

At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we’re proud to be able to partner with CHP Heart Camp by providing them with a self-storage unit where they can store their craft supplies, donations, and everything else. The ability to access their storage unit throughout the year has made it much easier for the camp to store items and pick them up when they need to.

Prizes and Fundraisers

In order to support the camp, CHP holds fundraisers throughout the year. These events require prizes, supplies, and other items to be successful. By renting a unit at our Green Tree location, CHP is able to store everything they need, and pick things up before their next fundraiser. This means they don’t have to find a spot in the hospital to store items, or ask staff or volunteers to take things home and keep track of them. Having everything in one unit in an offsite location makes it easier to know what they have, what they need, and what they can offer as prizes at the next event! With donations from businesses like Pat Catan’s Craft Center, there’s always the need for more storage!

Learn More About Heart Camp

Heart Camp was founded by Dr. Bill Neches, and it’s intended to help children ages eight to 17 who have heart conditions make new friends, experience new things, and create new memories. While many of these kids are used to dealing with doctors and nurses in a medical setting, the camp gives them the opportunity to see their physicians as friends, instead of someone who is going to test them or perform some mode of treatment. The physicians also get a chance to get to know the kids and learn more about them outside of the hospital.

Heart Camp for Kids 2018 will be held at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer in Fombell from Sunday, June 10th to Saturday, June 16th.
