By visiting one of our metro-area locations, you can find the space that suits your needs!

Your First Apartment

Renting your first apartment can be an overwhelming experience, especially if you’re going to be living on your own for the very first time. You want to be independent, and a big part of that is finding a suitable place to live. You’ll want to find an apartment that you can afford that’s also close to things you want to do, such as dining and entertainment.

When it comes to storage, apartments often offer little in the way of extra space. You’ll want to be sure that you utilize your closets to the best of your ability, avoiding simply putting things in them until you’re out of room. Your apartment may come with its own garage, but those often cost extra each month. If you don’t have enough storage space for everything that you want to keep safe, then visit one of our facilities and we’ll help you find the right option.

Upsizing or Downsizing?

Perhaps you’re moving to a new apartment because you want to be closer to work or closer to family. Whether you’re upsizing or downsizing in terms of square footage, it can be a good idea to rent a self-storage space, if even for a few months.

When moving from a larger apartment to a smaller one, you’re going to have to be selective as to what you move into your new residence. You may not be able to bring all of your furniture, and the closets may not fit everything you want. Renting a storage space can help you store what you need to, and you can take your time in deciding what you want to keep and what you’re okay with donating or tossing.

As for upsizing, you may want to fill your bigger apartment with new things. This often means that you need to store your older belongings until you decide what to do with them. If you buy a new couch for the living room or a new bedroom set, then you may need to store your old couch or old bed until you can find someone who will buy it from you or take it off your hands.

Living With Roommates

When renting a new apartment, you may need to find some roommates in order to afford the monthly costs of rent, utilities, and other expenses. You might have friends or relatives who are also looking for a place to live, and moving in together can make sense financially. It’s good to keep in mind, however, that multiple people living in the same apartment can put a strain on how the storage space is used. Everyone will have to be selective about what they bring with them, and there will likely need to be conversations about who’s bringing what and what things will be shared, such as the TV, items in the kitchen, and so on.

It can also be beneficial to rent a storage unit with your new roommates. Anything that doesn’t have a place or fit in the apartment can be put into storage, at least for a few months. If you decide as a group what unit size you need, then you can split the monthly cost and all feel better about your belongings being protected!
