Now that the holiday season is over, you’ve likely started taking down your decorations around the house. You might leave the string lights on the outside of the house up for another week or so, but inside, you’ve started packing up the tree, the ornaments, the greenery, and more. At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we can help you find a safe spot for your holiday decorations in one of our self-storage units. If you don’t want to put the boxes in the attic or the garage this year, then visit one of our metro-area locations today!
Handle Fragile Items with Care
As you’re taking things down, it’s important to handle any fragile items with care. If you have glass ornaments, then it’s a good idea to wrap them in newspaper and then pad them with bubble wrap in the box. You don’t want things moving around too much in the box, or knocking together as you carry them. If you have the original box and packaging for the ornament, then use those to protect everything. You can put the smaller boxes inside of a bigger box, but make sure that you don’t make the bigger box too heavy to carry.
Storing Your Tree
You may opt for a real tree every year, which in that case, it’s important to find the proper way to dispose of it. If you have an artificial tree, then you’ll want to find a good place to store it. There are storage bags that are specifically designed for artificial trees, or you can place everything back in the original box. If the fake branches can be folded up, then make sure you do so with care so that nothing gets smashed or twisted in the process. You’ll have to do some unfolding and arranging next year, but setting up the tree itself should be a cinch.
Invest in Light Spools
One of the biggest headaches of setting up and taking down interior holiday decorations can be the strings of lights. You try to get them to sit perfectly on the tree, but inevitably, something gets tangled and you spend 10 minutes straightening things out. When it comes time to take lights off the mantle or the tree, invest in holiday light spools that will properly hold your lights. Most spools can hold 100 feet of lights, and come with a bag that covers the entire spool. This makes storing your lights easier than ever, and when next December rolls around, you can put the lights up in no time at all, since they won’t be a tangled mess!
At EZ Storage®, we love helping people find the right self-storage options for their holiday decorations. You may only have a few boxes, or you may go all out with outdoor inflatables, lights, and more. Whatever the case may be, we can provide an ideal spot for all of your decorations, and they’ll be safe and sound until the next holiday season.
