If you’ve had a self-storage unit for several years, then you’ve likely put more and more stuff in it whenever you felt like there was too much clutter in the house. However, as the years have gone by, your storage space has gotten fuller and fuller, and now you’re not sure what’s stored in there. Hopefully you’ve kept an updated inventory list, but even if you have, it can be hard to get to what you need when you need it.
At EZ Storage® in Philadelphia, we can help you find the right self-storage options, or, if you already have a space, a bigger storage option. If you want to decide what to keep in storage, then there are a few easy steps that you can follow.
1. Pull Everything Out of the Unit
This step might not seem too “easy,” especially if your storage space is filled to the brim with boxes, furniture, and more. However, the best way to decide what you want to keep in storage is to pull everything out and look at it. If you’ve labeled the boxes accurately, then this process can go rather quickly, and you can even leave some boxes where they are once you know what’s inside of them. If you see a box marked “Miscellaneous,” then it’s a good idea to pull it out, open it up, and see if what’s inside is worth keeping.
2. Put Items Up for Sale
Your storage unit may not be completely filled with family heirlooms and personal mementos. There could also be furniture, appliances, and more that could still be worth something. When deciding what to keep in storage, think about what you could sell; that way, you’re clearing up space in the unit and also making a few dollars in the process. You might not think that the old record player you’ve stored for several years is worth something, but by posting it in the right place, you will likely find an interested buyer.
3. Upsize or Downsize
When sorting through your storage space, you may decide to sell or get rid of several items. This can mean that you no longer need the size of unit that you have, and downsizing can be the best way to go. On the other hand, you may decide to keep some of your larger items, but you notice that they don’t fit very well in the unit you have, or that they have to be stored on end or sideways in order to fit in the space. By upsizing to a larger unit, you can store these items properly, and have room for more items in the future.
At EZ Storage®, we have locations all across the greater Philadelphia area. If you already have a unit with us, then we hope that your experience so far has been a pleasant one.
