Helping Your Friends With Storage

In our last two blog posts, we’ve talked about helping your parents with storage and assisting your neighbors with finding the right self-storage solutions. We hope that if you’ve encountered either or both of those scenarios in the past few weeks, that you’ve been able to find an affordable option that worked for everyone involved. At EZ Storage® in Detroit, we’re always here to help anyone find the right storage space at a price that fits their budget and in a location that fits their life.

In this post — the last of our three-part series — we’re going to cover one final scenario regarding helping others find storage — assisting your friends. If you know someone who desperately needs a place to keep things, then keep reading!

Storing Things at Your House

We all have friends who we love having over to visit. You may even have close friends who consider your house their second home, and whenever they’re not at their own house, they’re spending time with you at your residence. While this can be great when it comes to your friendship, it may lead to them leaving things at your house for an extended period of time, or they may ask to store certain items on your property.

While this can be perfectly acceptable, it can be difficult to find enough space for their belongings, especially if you’re already limited on storage space yourself. If they have a vehicle or other large items that they want to store in your garage, then why not go with them to a local self-storage facility to find an appropriate unit that they can rent for a few months? While finances may be an obstacle, it can be better for your friendship for them to rent a storage space rather than keep things at your house for an undetermined amount of time.

Down on Their Luck

We always want to be there for our friends, especially when they’re down on their luck. Perhaps they’ve just lost a job or had a relationship that ended, and they need somewhere to store some of their belongings. In these instances, you’re more than willing to keep their things in your house, but if you simply don’t have the space, then a storage rental can be the next best thing.

You can also move some of your things into storage and free up space in your house or garage for your friend’s belongings. This keeps the financial burden on you, instead of having them try to pay for storage on top of dealing with their current situation. It’s important to have a conversation with your friend about your home and the storage arrangements, but what’s most important is that they know that you’re there for them at all times.

Friends Moving Away

No one likes to see their friends move away, no matter how old you are. You’re used to having them close by, and although modern communication makes it easy to connect with them wherever they are, you prefer to spend time with them in person. However, if your friend is moving to a new state or a new country, then they might be looking for a suitable storage space.

If they’re going to rent a self-storage unit, then you can help them move things in and also act as their local contact while they get settled in their new home, however far away that may be. Perhaps they’re only going to be gone for a few months while they travel for business or study abroad, in which case, they can rent a unit for the time they’re gone. They can also keep a few things at your house and pick everything up when they return!
