Have The Kids Help You Organize This Summer!

Now that May is here, your kids are likely looking forward to the beginning of summer and a break from school. They’ve worked hard in class all year, and now they’re ready for a few months away from teachers and homework. However, you likely have some projects that you’d like them to help you with during summer break, and organizing the house might be one of those projects.
At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we know how much effort it can take to organize your house, especially when it comes to the kids’ rooms. By having them help you, they can feel like they’re part of the process, rather than you just going through their rooms, getting rid of stuff. If you need a self-storage unit for anything that needs to be moved out of the house, such as winter clothing or old toys and games, then let us help you find the perfect space!
Go Through Their Closets
When was the last time you went through your child’s closet to see what still fit them? If they still have clothes in there that they outgrew several years ago, then summer is a great time to pull things out and donate them. You can box up shirts, pants, and jackets and take them to a local charity or nonprofit that will put them to good use.
If your child has winter clothes in their closet, then you can put those heavier garments into boxes and tubs and store them for the summer. Boots, hats, and gloves can also be stored, since your child won’t need those until at least September or October. If you plan on buying them some new clothes this summer, then both you and they will be glad for the extra room in the closet!
Go Through Their Toys and Games
Every child has their favorite toys and games, and they may have quite a pile of both in their room due to holiday and birthday gifts. If your child has toys that they no longer play with or games that they’ve grown tired of, then taking time to sort through them all and donating what’s no longer wanted can create more space for those toys and games your child does want to keep.
Perhaps you’re planning to build some new shelves in your child’s bedroom that can hold all their toys and games. By organizing what is to be kept, you can categorize them by size or type, and they’ll be easy to find the next time your child wants to play with them. If there are any toys and games that they want to keep but don’t have room for, then you can store those items for the time being.
Start Early and Enjoy Your Summer
Once the kids are out of school, they may want to spend their days in front of the TV or playing with friends. While those activities are fine, the sooner the house is organized, the sooner you won’t have to worry about it any more. By setting the expectation that the first couple of days will be spent going through closets and organizing toys and games, they can look forward to having the rest of the summer free.
If you need a self-storage unit for anything that you want to keep safe, then we hope you’ll come to EZ Storage®. With our selection of self-storage units, you can find a space that meets your needs, and with our monthly lease options, you only have to rent for the time you need. Once summer is over, you can take things back home once again.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
